Dice & Devises is a fully browser‑native roguelike dice deck‑builder that blends strategic decision‑making with a neon cyber‑arcade aesthetic. Built entirely with React, Tailwind CSS, and the Web Audio API, the game delivers fast, tactile dice rolling, rich sound design, and a surprising depth of systems—all without relying on external game engines or heavy assets.

At its core, the game challenges players to beat an escalating target score each round by rolling, keeping, swapping, and manipulating a set of custom dice. Scoring is a Yahtzee‑inspired system multiplied by item synergies, bonuses, and combo rewards. Between rounds, players visit a shop to acquire Devises (passive upgrades), Consumables, and new dice types, then choose branching paths that modify difficulty, rewards, and special conditions.

The game features:

  • A complete roguelike loop with round progression, bosses, item builds, economies, and ascension modes.

  • A dice‑bag and discard system inspired by card‑deck mechanics for long‑run strategy.

  • Over 40 unique items with chain‑reaction synergies—including legendary artefacts that radically reshape gameplay.

  • Boss encounters with rule‑bending effects (hidden dice, cursed values, gold drain, target inflation).

  • A procedural audio engine using the Web Audio API to create 8‑bit‑style tones and impact sounds.

  • High‑polish UI/UX: CRT effects, glitch animations, dynamic score visualisers, and a diegetic AI narrator called The Algorithm.

  • Zero‑asset delivery: everything (UI, dice, icons, effects) is generated with CSS, emoji, and procedural audio.

Despite its complexity, the entire game runs inside a single HTML file, making it exceptionally lightweight and easy to embed—or host—anywhere on the web.

It’s a self‑contained demonstration of systems design, front‑end architecture, game logic engineering, and visual polish.
